Dies Irae I by And I Become Death is the first part of a sprawling, two EP, apocalyptic journey through sound — a fusion of suffocating heaviness and stark ambience. The record moves like a stormfront: slow-building, inevitable, and devastating in its impact. It draws equally from the suffocating atmosphere of doom metal, the relentless aggression of death metal, and the frostbitten bleakness of black metal, yet it transcends all of them through its cinematic scope and emotional weight.

Fans of Neurosis, Pelican, Amenra, and Cult of Luna will recognize the primal intensity and meditative weight. The album’s dynamic interplay between light and darkness mirrors the post-metal ethos — a balance of texture and terror, reflection and rage.

Hailing from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, And I Become Death forge an unrelenting blend of atmosphere and aggression that blurs the lines between Post-Metal, Doom, and Blackened Death. Since forming in 2019, the band has become a fixture in the Southeastern heavy music scene, performing throughout the region and sharing stages with heavyweights such as Ringworm, High Command, Eyehategod, Goatwhore, Belphegor, Profanatica, Bloodlet, Tombs, Cloak, Unearth, Orthodox, Somnuri, and Ether Coven.

With two EPs already carving their mark in the Southeast metal underground — and a third, DIES IRAE II, due in early 2026 — a continuation of their exploration of apocalyptic themes and expansive sonic landscapes. A full-length album is planned to follow, marking the next phase of their ascent. A true collective of musicians united by diverse influences, the band channels the crushing weight of Amenra and Cult of Luna, the darkness of Behemoth and Slayer, and the textural depth of Pelican, ISIS, and Hiroe.

Their music is both meditative and violent — a reflection on decay, transcendence, and the human condition beneath the ruins. And their live shows are punctuated with the use of atmospheric lighting and samples transitioning between songs, creating a singular experience within North Carolina and the surrounding region.
