AND I BECOME DEATH returns with DIES IRAE II, the latest chapter in the North Carolina Triad-based Post-Metal collective's ongoing exploration of ruin, transcendence, and the inevitable collapse of all things. Released on June 19, 2026, the EP expands upon the band's signature fusion of crushing atmosphere, cinematic dynamics, and emotionally devastating weight.

A standout moment arrives in "Thy Shadow Is Not Thyself," where an expansive ambient bridge featuring saxophone emerges from the wreckage. The unexpected instrumentation serves as a spectral centerpiece, weaving mournful melodies through the song's vast sonic landscape before giving way to the EP's crushing final movements.

Fans of Neurosis, Pelican, Amenra, and Cult of Luna will recognize the primal intensity and meditative weight. The album’s dynamic interplay between light and darkness mirrors the post-metal ethos — a balance of texture and terror, reflection and rage.

Bio

Hailing from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, And I Become Death forge an unrelenting blend of atmosphere and aggression that blurs the lines between Post-Metal, Doom, and Blackened Death. Since forming in 2019, the band has become a fixture in the Southeastern heavy music scene, performing throughout the region and sharing stages with heavyweights such as Ringworm, High Command, Eyehategod, Goatwhore, Belphegor, Profanatica, Bloodlet, Tombs, Cloak, Unearth, Orthodox, Somnuri, and Ether Coven.

Since its formation, AND I BECOME DEATH has steadily built its catalog with three EP releases: AND I BECOME DEATH (2022), DIES IRAE (2025), DIES IRAE II (2026) -- with a full length forthcoming in 2027. Each release expands upon the band's evolving sound, balancing devastating riffs and cinematic atmospheres with moments of haunting restraint, channeling the crushing weight of Amenra and Cult of Luna, the darkness of Behemoth and Slayer, and the textural depth of Pelican and ISIS.

The band's latest release, DIES IRAE II, showcases its continued artistic growth, highlighted by the ambient saxophone bridge featured in the track "Thy Shadow Is Not Thyself," which adds a unique layer of melancholy and depth to the band's already expansive sound.

Their music is both meditative and violent — a reflection on decay, transcendence, and the human condition beneath the ruins.
